Isaiah 51:17 – Awake Awake
[Isa 51:17 NKJV]
17 Awake, awake! Stand up, O Jerusalem, You who have drunk at the hand of the LORD The cup of His fury; You have drunk the dregs of the cup of trembling, [And] drained [it] out.
Nation of Israel rebelled against God – worshiping other gods.
Cycle of following God and rebelling against him
Cycle of defeat / oppression & freedom
[Isa 51:22-23 NKJV]
22 Thus says your Lord, The LORD and your God, [Who] pleads the cause of His people: “See, I have taken out of your hand The cup of trembling, The dregs of the cup of My fury; You shall no longer drink it.
23 But I will put it into the hand of those who afflict you, Who have said to you, ‘Lie down, that we may walk over you.’ And you have laid your body like the ground, And as the street, for those who walk over.”
Truth: God will discipline his people. But his desire is to rescue them.
Application: “Awake Awake” – See God as your deliverer.
I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the father of glory will give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him.
The eyes of your understanding being enlightened, that you may know the hope of his calling.
The riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints
And the exceeding greatness of his power toward us who believe.
