[Mar 4:24 KJV]
24 And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.
Jesus told a parable about a man sowing seed.
They planted wheat like we plant grass – scatter it across the ground.
4 places the seed landed: Path, Shallow soil, Weeds, Good ground.
Seed failed in three locations. Prospered in good ground.
Jesus explains the parable to disciples.
Then says: Take heed to what you hear.
The measure you use will be used on you.
And you will get more of what you are hearing.
You see examples of this in the Internet and your phone.
Your phone is always listening.
My daughter tried an experiment. She had a “conversation” with a friend about a particular dress. Within a matter of minutes, ads for that dress popped up on Facebook.
I did a search online at Home Depot for a shower base. I found what I needed and bought one.
But for a month I had ads for shower bases showing up in Google and Facebook.
Jesus: There is a spiritual algorithm.
Truth: What you hear — listen to — you will get more of.
“If you hear a lie often enough, you will draw even more lies to you.”
Quote attributed to Hitler or Joseph Goebbels: The quote is older than both of them. Quote from book Crown of Life written in 1869:
‘If a lie is only printed often enough, it becomes a quasi-truth, and if such a truth is repeated often enough, it becomes an article of belief, a dogma, and men will die for it.’
Action: Learn to listen to Holy Spirit — Spirit of Truth — “guide you into all truth.”
Theme – Live by the Holy Spirit. Walk with the Holy Spirit.
Is this a guarantee you will always be right?
NO!
Words Jesus uses — we have a choice. “Take heed” & “The measure you use.”
Action 2: Ask questions. Question everything. Even what you think you know for certain.
There are forces at work in the world who want to feed you lies. Media
Even people you think are on your side may not tell the truth . . . or only partial truth.
Question everything!
Listen to Holy Spirit!
