[Mar 4:33-34 NKJV]
33 And with many such parables He spoke the word to them as they were able to hear [it].
34 But without a parable He did not speak to them. And when they were alone, He explained all things to His disciples.
Bible says that Jesus did all of his teaching with parables.
Story that contains a lesson or explanation.
Eg: Don’t kill the goose that lays golden eggs. Don’t cry wolf. Don’t build your house from straw or twigs, use bricks.
Jesus didn’t explain explain parables to the crowds. Only to disciples.
In other words – he intentionally made his teaching hard to understand.
[Mat 13:12-13 NKJV]
12 “For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. 13 “Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.
Then Jesus quotes Isaiah 6
[Isa 6:9-10 NKJV]
9 And He said, “Go, and tell this people: ‘Keep on hearing, but do not understand; Keep on seeing, but do not perceive.’ 10 “Make the heart of this people dull, And their ears heavy, And shut their eyes; Lest they see with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand with their heart, And return and be healed.
This makes it sound like God intentionally makes it hard for people to understand.
Jesus parables – about the kingdom of heaven.
There is God’s work – his word
There is or work – let his word grow in us.
Parable of the talents: Ep 27
Truth: You are responsible for hearing.
Examples of willful ignorance: Twitter . . . some churches.
God’s word is given in ways that require us to be in relationship.
Intended to draw us in.
Action: Let God’s word work in your life to open your eyes & ears & draw you into closer relationship with Holy Spirit.
Our assignment is to represent the kingdom of God on this earth.
“Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as in heaven.”
To accomplish this we need to listen & let God’s word grow in us.
