Never before had any man paid 8 cows for his wife!
This podcast is about answering the question, “Who are you?”
Most of my life I tried to get my identity from the things I did and somewhat from what I had. The problem is that I failed a lot! And every failure dropped my self-esteem and confidence ever lower. It finally got to the point I expected to fail.
This was also true in my attempt to be a good Christian. I saw myself as a hopeless sinner, destined to come crawling on my knees begging forgiveness yet again.
God delivered me from this religious BS belief. And once I got the message, I remembered the story of Johnny Lingo and the 8 cows he paid for his wife.
Such a high price had never been paid for a dowry. And likely no one would ever pay such a price again. What amazed the people of the south-seas islands is that Serita, the woman Johnny married was plain. No one thought she would ever be married. And they all thought she wouldn’t even bring one cow as a dowry.
And yet Johnny Lingo, the best deal-maker in the islands, gave 8 cows for her.
